Case Studies
BFA Consulting have provided in-depth technical services
across a wide range of civil infrastructure projects.
Ballymoneen Solar Farm
BFA Consulting provided full civil and structural engineering services for Ballymoneen Solar Farm, a 136MWp utility scale photovoltaic project in Co. Galway.
Ballymoneen Solar Farm covers a ground area of approximately 141Ha (349 acres) and posed several technical challenges including the presence of existing utilities on-site as well as there being a number of ecologically sensitive locations within the site boundary.
Working on behalf of Voltalia Ireland, BFA Consulting provided the detailed design of the site tracks, internal drainage system and transformer bases for the project.
Solar Site Suitability Assessment
When it comes to solar farm site selection, it’s fair to say that not all sites are created equally!
With a large proportion of consented solar farms in Ireland and the UK unlikely to ever be developed due to the economic viability of the project, the risks and commercially sensitivities involved with developing utility scale solar projects are clearly an obstruction to many Developers.
At BFA Consulting, we have designed our own unique series of modelling and mapping techniques to address the constructability risks and capital requirements associated with solar farm development.
These outputs allow our Clients to progress through the various development stages having addressed both the capital risks and potential return-on-invest at the very outset of the project.
Creevy Solar Farm
Creevy Solar Farm is a 6MWp capacity project in Co. Roscommon, covering a ground area of approximately 34 acres.
BFA Consulting, were appointed by Voltalia Ireland to complete the civil engineering design for the project, including all drainage design, culvert design and internal track designs.
Garreenleen Solar Farm
BFA Consulting supported Voltalia Ireland on Garreenleen Solar Farm for several technical civil engineering design elements during the construction stage of the 81MWp PV project.
BFA Consulting obtained consent from the OPW under Section 50 of the Arterial Drainage Act 1945, for the construction of two watercourse crossings within the site boundary. We also completed several hydraulic designs for culvert crossings within the site, modelling the peak flow rates to ensure the flood risk associated with the culverts was negated
BFA Consulting have also carried technical analysis of several elements of the project including cable trench designs and track designs.
Testimonials
BFA have completed engineering services on a number of pre-planning phase renewable energy projects for Greensource including turbine delivery and grid connection route assessments and civil design reviews. The team are very responsive to our needs and the quality of works are always of a very high standard. We would have no hesitation in highly recommending BFA to other development companies.
.
Empower Renewables Ireland (ERIL) have engaged BFA Consulting on several of our early-stage feasibility screening assessments for onshore wind and solar farm projects in Ireland. BFA Consulting have continuously demonstrated their in-depth technical knowledge for delivering onshore energy projects and have always provided us with a concise and technically accurate product in line with agreed timelines.
Additionally, BFA Consulting maintained excellent lines of communication with our staff throughout the projects, providing prompt and informed responses to any questions raised and have consistently added value to ERIL’s early stage project evolution. BFA Consulting’s input in our portfolio has facilitated informed decision making for our development teams in transitioning projects into their planning consent phases.
ERIL would highly recommend BFA Consulting to any organisation seeking technical evaluations of their renewable energy projects and we look forward to working with BFA Consulting further into the future.
BFA Consulting have carried out civil engineering consulting work for GP Joule on multiple projects for both our wind energy and solar energy developments. We have engaged BFA Consulting at both the site selection stage and planning stage of our projects have always found their work to be of the highest standard. The team at BFA Consulting are always prompt in responding to our queries which has helped develop a collaborative and efficient working relationship between the two companies.
